Across Africa
From Capetown to Nairobi by truck in 41 days.
After 3 weeks exploring Cape Town, the Cape, the vinyards of Paarl, Franschoek, and Stellenbosch, as well as Knysna along the Garden Route, I hoped on a 24 seater truck with 16 other adventurous hopefulls.
At the half way point of Livingstone, the Zambian side of Vic Falls, we saw half our group disapper, some back to J'burg on another truck, others flew home or elsewhere. But we also attracted a dozen new travelling companions.
Eight of us would complete the whole route, only three with livers still intact.
Once in Nairobi the disappearing acts continued as some folk headed home, others explored Kenya, some Uganda, or they climbed Kili. A small group us ventured west on seriously dodgy public transport for Uganda to explore the 'heart' of Africa on our own.
For me Uganda was a highlight thanks to the beautiful Ugandans, and their charming country. But so was Rwanda, in a very different way.
The entire trip was full of highlights: from adrenlin pumping activities, to getting up close and personal with wild animals, meeting local africans, and making some good friends. Yeah you can see Africa on your own and independently, but taking a truck was a great intro to Africa, got us to places that would have taken much longer on public transport and hell, met some good drinkin' buddies!
